When Amsterdam expanded south in the 1920s and 1930s, the architect Berlage drew up a plan of broad avenues, generous squares and closed housing blocks, and the Rivierenbuurt was among the first parts of it to be completed. Its streets carry the names of European rivers, the Maas, the Rijn, the Schelde, the Waal, and its buildings belong to the expressive brick style of the period, with rounded corners, patterned masonry and stairwells lit by tall narrow windows. The Amstel forms its eastern edge, and to the south the convention centre draws visitors from around the world to trade fairs and congresses.
That mix makes the neighbourhood unusual. On one street you find families who have lived in the same flat for decades, and on the next a small hotel full of people wearing lanyards. What almost everyone shares is a preference for quiet. The Rivierenbuurt has none of the late bars of De Pijp just to the north, and by ten on a weeknight the avenues are empty enough to hear a bicycle bell a block away.
The quarter itself
Apartments here were built for families, and while the rooms are not grand, they are well proportioned and solidly constructed, with thick walls that keep the neighbours' sounds out and the warmth in. The layout is almost always a street door, a stone or wooden staircase, and a flat with a front room overlooking the avenue and a bedroom at the back above a courtyard garden. That back bedroom is ideal for a session, dim and hushed even in the early evening. Radiators in these buildings are dependable but slow to respond, so set them higher at least half an hour before the booking.
The hotels near the convention centre and along the ring are modern and practical, with keycard lifts and bright business lighting. Switch off the ceiling panels and use one low lamp, close the blackout curtains, and leave the key card in its holder so the power stays on. During a large trade fair the lobbies are busy late into the evening, which makes a therapist arriving with one bag completely unremarkable. She messages from the entrance, and you can meet her at the lift or send down the room number.
How the session comes to you
Bookings here follow the calendar of the convention centre more than the seasons. During a big fair, the requests come late on weekday evenings from delegates who have spent ten hours on their feet at a stand or seated in a hall, and ninety minutes of tantra, placed so that the slow close leads straight to sleep, is the common choice. We suggest drinking water and eating lightly beforehand, since a day of networking tends to arrive with coffee in the system and a dinner eaten too quickly.
Between fairs, the neighbourhood's residents and long-stay renters book differently: two-hour sessions on weekend afternoons, repeat evenings with a preferred therapist, and lingam or yoni massage once the tantra pace feels familiar. Couples in the family-sized apartments can usually fit two therapists side by side. And because a good part of the roster lives only a few streets away, a session here can often begin sooner than people expect.

Timing, payment, the practical part
Once you send a WhatsApp message with the address or hotel, confirmation arrives in about ten minutes with the therapist's name, the arrival window and the total. With many therapists living a few streets north in De Pijp and west in Oud-Zuid, arrival in the Rivierenbuurt normally falls within twenty to thirty minutes, and the distance adds nothing to the price.
An hour costs €180, ninety minutes €270, two hours €360 and three hours €540, while two therapists are €360 an hour and the eight-hour overnight is €1,250, at the same rate on a Tuesday afternoon or a Saturday at three in the morning. Payment is settled when she arrives, with cash in any major currency, a card or crypto. Clients must be twenty-one or over, and delegates flying out the morning after a fair can arrange a session at a hotel near Schiphol instead, by asking in advance.
