Tantra massage at your hotel in Amsterdam, after the door closes

Hotel rooms were never designed for ritual, and yet with the curtains drawn, the thermostat raised and the city left outside the door, they hold a tantra session better than almost anywhere else.

Tantra massage at your hotel, from message to knock

Booking a tantra massage at your hotel in Amsterdam takes one message and perhaps half an hour of waiting. Send the name of the area or the hotel, your room number if you have it, the length of session you want and the time you want it to begin. Within about ten minutes a reply confirms who is coming and what the total will be, and once you agree she sets off, reaching rooms in the centre twenty to thirty minutes later. She walks through the lobby like any guest returning from dinner, dressed for an evening in the city and carrying one discreet bag, and she comes straight up to your floor unless you have asked to be met downstairs instead. If your hotel likes visitors to be announced, she gives her name at the desk as any friend calling on a guest would, and nothing about her arrival draws the eye of anyone in the corridor.

Turning a hotel room warm and dim

Most hotel rooms in Amsterdam run cool, and slow work on oiled skin makes even a faint draught noticeable, so the first task is heat. Raise the thermostat well before she arrives, two or three degrees above the setting you would choose for sleep, and if the air conditioning blows directly at the bed, turn the fan down or off entirely. Many rooms cut the power when the key card leaves its slot, so leave the card in place or the heating may quietly switch itself off halfway through the evening. Then deal with the light. Overhead fittings are too bright and too clinical for this work; switch them off and use a single bedside lamp, turned toward the wall if it glares. Draw the blackout curtains even if it is still light outside, since a room that could be any hour of the day is easier to rest in than one that insists on the time.

The bed, the space and what she brings

A standard double or larger is more than enough, and even a compact canal-house room works, provided there is about a metre of clear floor along one side of the bed. You do not need to strip the sheets or ask housekeeping for anything extra. Your therapist brings her own oils, which she warms before they touch you, along with towels and fresh linen to lay over the bed, so the covers you sleep under afterwards are left as clean as you found them. If there is a luggage rack or an open suitcase beside the bed, move it to the far wall. Hang the do-not-disturb sign on the outer handle, and if there is an evening turndown service, decline it at the desk before she arrives so that nobody knocks during the long, quiet middle of the session.

Why a hotel room suits slow work

A guest room holds a particular kind of privacy. Nobody else lives there, nothing in it asks for your attention, and the rest of the world is literally on the other side of a locked door. That anonymity is useful, because tantra cannot begin in earnest until the body stops monitoring its surroundings, and a room in which you have already unpacked and showered has lost most of its strangeness. There is also the matter of afterwards. At a studio, the session ends with getting dressed, finding shoes and walking back out into traffic, which undoes a great deal of what the preceding hours built. In a hotel, the session ends in the bed you were going to sleep in anyway, and many guests tell us the long unbroken night that follows is the part they remember most clearly.

Late arrivals, early flights and Schiphol

Travellers rarely keep ordinary hours, and neither do we. A session can begin at midnight after a late check-in, at dawn before an early departure, or in the lull of a jet-lagged afternoon, and it costs the same at every one of those times. If you have landed late and are staying at one of the hotels around Schiphol rather than in the city, send your message a little earlier than you would from the centre, because airport-area bookings are arranged individually rather than dispatched at once. If you have an early flight, tell us when you need to be asleep and we will suggest a length that leaves a proper night of rest behind it. Ninety minutes is often the right answer for a traveller, long enough to do the work justice and short enough not to eat into the sleep the next day will need.

Paying in your room, and what it costs

Nothing is taken when you book, and nothing is added to your hotel bill. When she arrives, the agreed amount is settled before the session begins, in cash of any major currency at that evening's exchange rate, by card, or in crypto, so that the end of the evening never has to become a transaction. Sixty minutes cost €180, ninety cost €270, two hours cost €360 and three cost €540. Two therapists working together are €360 per hour, and the eight-hour overnight is €1,250 for guests who would rather she stayed until morning. There is no surcharge for night bookings, weekends or travel anywhere in the centre, which means the figure quoted in your confirmation message is precisely what you will pay in your room.

After she leaves

The final minutes of a tantra massage at your hotel are not really over when the door clicks shut. Let them last. Leave the lamp low, drink a glass of water, and resist the reflex to reach for your phone and reconnect with the day you had set aside. A warm shower can wait until morning if the oil feels pleasant on the skin. If you would like to book again during your stay, the same message thread is waiting, and many guests arrange a second, longer session for their final night once they understand what the first one opened. Whatever you decide, there will be no follow-up messages from us, no reminders and nothing that arrives unasked on a phone you may share with someone else.
